Mechanics HQ
Category: Web Design
Mechanics HQ is a well-established local garage based in Barnsley, with over a decade of industry experience. This project involved a complete website redesign, aimed at modernising the brand’s digital presence, improving usability, and clearly communicating Mechanics HQ’s expertise and services while making it easier for customers to get back on the road quickly and confidently.
The brief was to completely redesign the website, elevating its visual presence to create a more professional and trustworthy first impression for potential customers. The objective was not only aesthetic improvement, but also strategic refinement.
I began by conducting a full audit of the existing site, analysing its visual hierarchy, user journey, content structure, and overall user experience. Alongside this, I reviewed the technical SEO performance, assessing keyword usage, metadata structure, page indexing, and on-page optimisation. This evaluation highlighted key weaknesses in layout consistency, content clarity, and search visibility.
By breaking the website down into its core components, structure, design system, and technical framework, I was able to deconstruct the entire platform and rebuild it with a more cohesive visual identity, clearer navigation pathways, and stronger SEO foundations.
Once the redesigned website was built and launched, the focus shifted to backend optimisation and performance tracking. I implemented refined on-page SEO strategies, including optimised meta titles and descriptions, structured heading hierarchies, improved internal linking, and keyword alignment tailored to local search intent.
Technical elements such as site indexing, sitemap configuration, and performance optimisation were reviewed to ensure search engines could efficiently crawl and rank the site. In addition, analytics and tracking tools were configured to monitor user behaviour, traffic sources, and conversion pathways.
Establishing this data-driven foundation allows for informed decision-making and provides a scalable framework for future marketing campaigns, paid advertising, and ongoing content strategy.
The project addressed several core issues that were limiting the business’s growth and credibility online.
Firstly, the previous website lacked a strong professional presence. An outdated visual design and inconsistent layout weakened first impressions, which can significantly impact trust, particularly for a local service-based business where credibility is critical. The redesign established a clearer brand identity, stronger visual hierarchy, and a more structured user journey, reinforcing professionalism and reliability.
Secondly, the site’s usability and information architecture were not fully optimised. Key services were not as accessible as they could be, which created friction in the customer journey. By refining navigation, restructuring content, and implementing clearer calls to action, the new website improved accessibility and reduced decision-making barriers for users.
Finally, there were SEO and performance limitations restricting online visibility. Weak keyword targeting, inconsistent metadata, and limited tracking meant the business was not fully leveraging search traffic. By strengthening technical and on-page SEO, and introducing performance monitoring, the project solved the issue of low discoverability and created a measurable, scalable digital foundation for future marketing growth.
In short, the redesign transformed the website from a static online presence into a strategic business tool designed to build trust, generate enquiries, and support long-term growth.
Next Steps
With the redesigned website and planned to go live soon, the project continues beyond launch. The client is scheduled for ongoing photoshoots and structured website maintenance, ensuring the platform remains current, visually strong, and strategically aligned. This continued support allows the business to build momentum, strengthen its online presence, and achieve sustainable growth.
